A word about custom
clearance in US/UK/Australia/Canada/Norway/Holland.
(this information is based on customer feedback and may
change form time to time)
US : We have hau no problems in the USA as there
isan exemption for scooters over 25 years old. Thus,
with an exemption for older scooters, you are safe as
all our scooters are more than 25 years old and this
will be stated on the documents. DOT and EPA
requirements do NOT apply.
Once the scooter lands in the port of entry, the agent
there affiliated with the shipping line will contact you
about payment for shipping. You can then probably have
customs clearance done in the Port by them, or choose to
do in in your own city by yourself or by a Customers
broker for $50-100. Choose your own city and consider
doing it yourself. Most customers have done it
themselves and paid nothing. Read this report a customer
sent back: Here’s the deal. You don’t need an agent. The
only reason the shippers recommend an agent is to save
you the trip. We continually receive reports back that
Customs has charged Customs duties totaling less than
10$.
UK : There are no problems importing, and no duty
for pre – 1971 scooters. For post 71 you would need to
pay 17% VAT & 5% customs duty. There is 5% VAT, and you
need a VAT receipt from Customs to later register it at
DVLC. A receipt form the shipper is not accepted by DVLC.
Give Customs a call and ask what forms you need in order
to clear the scooter yourself and save any charges
there.
AUSTRALIA : We’ve been told that you need to
apply for an import permit before the shipment arrives.
Please make it with the docs copy we send you as we hear
that the shipment can be destroyed otherwise.
You can go here to download and www.dotars.gov.au/transreg/vsb/vsb_10.htm
for application form. Apparently, though two-wheeled
vehicles are never mentioned (all other categories
pretty much are) you are included in that legislation.
CANADA: There are no problems importing, though we’ve
been told in Canada to make sure you get a Form 1 from
Customs to use when registering.
NORWAY : The vehicles if before 30ys have no
problems and can be imported free of duty under classic
category.
HOLLAND : For vehicles over 30 yrs old there isno
import duty and these vehicles can ply on the roads
without paying monthly road taxes.
For vehicles less than 30 but older than25 yrs there is
no customs duty but these need to pay tax to ply on the
road and these need a permit to run on the road.
For vehicles less than 25 yes old the there is a 45%
import tax and a 6% VAT and these vehicles need to pay
monthly road tax. There is no problem for registrations
as long as the vehicle was never imported in any country
of the EU.
